4th Annual Camp Courageous Hawkeye Spring Fling

Coach with Thompson Family

Alex Thompson, Stacey Thompson, Coach Kirk Ferentz, and Matt Thompson are key to the success of this event. Stacey coordinates every one and pulls off this dream come true for over 100 campers. A special thank you to Kirk Ferentz, who has always done what ever he could to make sure this event is a success. A class act…with hearts of gold (and a little black, too)!

Stacey commented, “this is one of the most amazing events I have ever been apart of.”

The event is such a hit with the campers, this year over 150 campers, parents and camp staff joined about 15 Hawkeyes, and Coach Ferentz for lunch, tours and playtime at the Bubble.”

Martin Bros. generously donated lunch for the event, and Kum & Go donated some Hiland water and Menace Maniac juice. PMCI designed and donated nerf style footballs for each of the campers. They were covered with autographs at the end of the day.

The smiles on these kids faces were enough to warm up the cool rainy morning. Bill Krause (Kum & Go) spear-headed this event four-years ago with a generous donation of a Mini-Bus to Camp Courageous.

Event Workers

Here is a great team! (L-R) Chigozie Ejiasi is the Director of Player Development and has done a great job of coordinating the football players, coaches and facilities to make this day the thrill it was for campers. Stacey Thompson (formerly with Kum & Go) coordinates the U of I, PMCI, Kum & Go, Martin Bros. and Camp Courageous…the go to person! Andrea Henry, Alyse Biondi, and Angie Witt are with the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Iowa. They provided the footballs and helped with check-in…they are helping Camp Courageous the year-round.

Field under construction

Campers did not have the opportunity to play on the main field at Kinnick due to the refurbishing going on. It was fascinating for all to see this huge project.
