The campers and staff at Camp Courageous were feeling very patriotic on the 4th of July! With nearly 200 campers and staff loaded onto buses and traveled to Monticello for their annual 4th of July parade. For over 45 minutes prior to the start of the parade, the group serenaded the surrounding parade-goers with a concert with their best camp songs and a few patriotic tunes. However, once the parade began it was all it was all red, white, and blue business with smiles and cheers as the parade made it’s way past. Several groups of campers volunteered to ride on the camp “Fun Wagon” as part of the parade, waving, and tossing candy and trinkets as they made their way past the masses lining the streets of Monticello.
After the parade, the campers returned to camp. A few activities and an early dinner later, they loaded the buses again to travel to Cascade. The campers enjoyed the evening with a few games at the Cascade Ball Field, as anticipation was building for the main event—the FIREWORKS! It was a star-spangled show with lots of lights, colors, and booms! It was a memorable 4th of July, but there were some weary campers who returned to Camp Courageous after their event-filled day. They had so much fun, on July 5th they decided to sleep in an extra half-hour!
