River Bandits Day Trip

Day 1 |

Day 1

Hello Camp Courageous!

The Travel Group headed to Davenport, IA to watch a River Bandits baseball game today! We started our day with picking up travelers at Camp, Marion and Coralville. We met the final 3 travelers and 2 volunteers in Davenport at Modern Woodmen Park.
It was a great day for a baseball game! The weather was perfect and we had a surprise for the travelers! Our seats were upgraded!! We were originally going to watch the game from the Party Patio but the flood walls had to be put up which made the patio unaccessible for our group. So Kayla, the Group Sales Executive, had planned ahead for our group and put us up in the Champions Clubhouse!! The travelers loved the VIP treatment!

We had our our viewing area for the game which included both indoor and outdoor space! There were large garage type doors that opened up so we could enjoy the nice cool breeze. We also had an all you can eat buffet arranged for the group. We had unlimited hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, baked beans, coleslaw, cookies, popcorn and soda, water and lemonade. It was delicious!!

Once we arrived in the Champions Clubhouse we had a little time before the game started so we took advantage of the food and grabbed some lunch! Before we knew it the game was under way so the travelers headed outside to the balcony to watch the game. We had a great view of the field! We were along the 3rd base line. We also had a beautiful view of the Mississippi River in the background.

Kayla also helped set up a few other surprises for us! We had a visit from Rascal, the River Bandit’s mascot. The travelers were excited that Rascal stopped by and loved taking pictures with him! Kayla also arranged for our group to be on the big screen!!! It was such an awesome day and Kayla was so helpful and accommodating to our group!
The travelers had a blast cheering and watching the game! The River Bandits played against the Great Lake Loons. Both teams scored a run in the first inning!  Traveler Stephen Esker enjoyed talking baseball with volunteer Nila Dahlin. Traveler Roger Prior was trying to distract the players on the Loons by yelling “Heyyy batter, batter!” The travelers also got to do some shopping!! Traveler Steven DeWitt had been looking forward to shooting and picked out a great looking hat! The Loons scored another run in the 2nd inning and neither team scored another run for the remainder of the game. Even tho the River Bandits lost, the travelers had a fantastic time!
Once the game ended, we made out way outside, said goodbye to the 3 travelers and 2 volunteers who had met us at the stadium and then boarded the bus. We dropped off travelers Coralville, Marion and Camp. We made it back to Camp around 7pm. Everyone has been picked up.
