Camp Courageous is honored to present to Carl and Karen Kelchen, Bryon and Carolyn Kelchen, and the Custom Precast Company the camp’s Trail Blazer Award. For decades, they have had an exceptional dedication in making possible the dream of coming to Camp Courageous a reality for thousands of campers with special needs. They have truly been trail blazers, helping the camp from infancy in the mid-80s to the mature facility it is today.
They have donated dozens of septic tanks and related products (dosing tanks, tank risers, D boxes, caps, and so much more) to Camp Courageous over the decades, as the camp has grown from a few hundred campers to over 8,000 campers and around 100,000 visitors annually. Camp Courageous has become a small town. They have donated culverts for a variety of projects. They have donated huge retaining walls for activities, like the camp’s train, that now allows the camp’s train to go through much of the woods, safely. Every year there has been something new and exciting, that they have immediately jumped on board to support. Recent projects have included, but not limited to, providing precast buildings, providing steps for the new Durgin Pavilion and a current project involving raised flower gardens.
They have also been involved with fund raising support of camp, supporting everything from the Cascade/Bernard Benefit, sponsoring Cruisin’ For Camp Courageous, to attending Camp’s Open Houses and Breakfasts and much more.
Camp Courageous feels extremely fortunate to have the Kelchens as friends. They have left an incredible legacy at Camp Courageous.
