Throwback to 1985 – Life Investors Hold Sports Car Raffle for Camp Courageous

Life Investors

Life Investors, now known as Transamerica, celebrated their 25th anniversary by holding a raffle of a McLaren sports car with the proceeds benefitting Camp Courageous. The drawing was held on Valentine’s Day, and a University of Iowa student won. Approximately $55,000 was raised after taxes and expenses. At the time, this was the largest one-time donation to Camp Courageous to date. Members of the Life Investors 25th Anniversary Committee were (L-R) Bob Ray, Marie Swope, Wilburn Hollis, Cheryl Peyton, Pat Ryan, Art Christoffersen – Camp Courageous Board Member, Charlie Stortz, Pat Baird, Theron (Tommy) Thomsen – Camp Courageous Board Member, and Jim Kuchenbacher. This group dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to this raffle for Camp Courageous, and they all became lifetime friends of the camp.
