It is a humbling honor to Camp Courageous that Virginia Derwin has chosen Camp Courageous to receive her memorials. Camp Courageous always held a special place in Viriginia’s heart. It took on an even more important role when she learned her grandson, Jimmy Klesner, was born with many special needs. She learned from Jimmy, first hand, the great joy it brought him to go to camp. Jimmy was fortunate to have been born into an incredibly loving and caring family.
Virginia loved all her children and grandchildren and her arms were always open wide. She was a wonderful grandmother…along with being a very special and loving mother, wife, and friend. Family is what Virginia lived for and she leaves a beautiful legacy in each of them.
Under a beautiful maple tree at the entrance of Camp Courageous is a bronze embossed plaque, in memory of Jimmy. It reads, “Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.” Jimmy has reached his tender little hands down to take grandma on to her next journey.
Camp’s heartfelt sympathy goes out to Virginia’s wonderful family, along with her many friends. She will be dearly missed here at Camp, but her legacy will live on in the laughs and joys she has provided so many. We will miss her wonderful visits and kind words and actions, that were always such an inspiration…
With warm and personal regards,
Charlie Becker, Director
