The John and Dorothy Sill Barn and Barnyard Area
The Sill Barn addition to camp was made possibly by John and Dorothy Sill and their family. Duane Sill has played a central role in the design and construction of this amazing structure.
There are basically two components to the Sill Barn. The upstairs is an area for barn dances and other camper activities. It is outstandingly beautiful. From the huge oak timbers, to the beautiful oak floors, everything is authentic. Most of the campers who attend Camp Courageous have never been around a farm or farm animals.
At the Sill Barn and Farm Yard, they experience the thrill of bottle feeding the new born goats, calves and other animals. The campers understand why people say P.U. when they smell a pig. And they experience the thrill of riding the camp’s horse.
The Sill Barn and other areas of the camp are available for rental. Call Jeanne at 319-465-5916, ext. 2300 for additional information.
The upper section of the Sill Barn is a room that features beautiful wood floors, walls, and support beams. It makes an ideal location for indoor camper activities, such as dancing, karaoke, and more. It has also been rented for wedding receptions, family gatherings, dinners, meetings, and more.
The lower part of the Sill Barn is setup with pens for the various animals that the campers get to experience during their visits. Goats, ducks, chickens, calfs, and other animals can be found in this section of the barn during different parts of the camping season.
