2006
Travel Program - All Trips

Purpose
The purpose of Camp Courageous’ Travel Program is to provide campers over the age of 14 the opportunity to experience the joys and thrills of visiting urban areas in a safe and controlled atmosphere. Experienced staff who have planned each detail of the trip accompanies travel campers.

Participants
Every Camp Courageous Trip is for individuals who are able to function successfully in a variety of public settings. Camp Courageous is proud to offer trips for campers who may benefit from more supervision and care.

Deposit/Travel Accounts
All trip participants must provide camp a $300 non-refundable deposit by February 28th. Campers are welcome to pay the entire amount of their trip(s) at this time. We also welcome setting up travel accounts for campers interested in planning on taking additional trips in the 2006 or 2007 season.

Trip Requirements
Individuals who choose to participate in the trips are expected to be willing and able to do the following:

  • Be on the go A LOT
  • Use stairs, elevators, and/or escalators
  • Attend sporting events in large stadiums (schedule permitting)
  • Cross city streets
  • Get in and out of a 15-passenger motor coach (“Wheeling” campers will be assisted onto a motor coach with a lift)
  • Ride in a motor coach for several hours
  • Stay with the group
  • Be independent in personal care (exception being our “Assisting” and “Wheeling” trips).
  • Have good social skills
  • Campers traveling in December will also travel by plane
  • There are spaces available for campers who use wheel chairs on the December and “Wheeling” trips.
  • Campers traveling to Toronto, Niagara Falls, or the Cruise must be at least 18 years of age and provide a picture ID and legal birth certificate (no photocopies) or passport in order to cross borders.

St. Louis Trip
Enjoy spending this winter week with us exploring Forest Park where we’ll visit the St Louis Zoo, Planetarium, Science Center, and Art Museum. We’ll also enjoy the view of the Mississippi River from the St Louis Arch. And schedule permitting we’ll take in a sporting event. Max 8 campers. $850.00 (deposit due on January 23rd for this trip.)

St. Louis Weekend Trip
Visit Forest Park for Zoo, Science Center, and Art Museum, Plus the St Louis Arch, and Monster Jam Truck Racing (schedule pending). $250.00

Memphis Trip
We’ll explore the culture and uniqueness of the home of the Delta Blues. Graceland will be the highlight or our journey. We’ll enjoy the warmness of winter in the south with a day at the Memphis Zoo, plus a sporting event if our schedule permits (Grizzlies vs. Celtics). Max 9 campers. $700.00

Nashville Trip
Let’s head south this winter week to the Country Music Capital. In this music filled week, we’ll visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, Studio B, and take a driving tour of Stars’ Homes. An evening of entertainment at the Grand Ole Opry will top off our week. On our way back to Camp Courageous we’ll stop in St Louis to visit the Arch. Max 15 campers. $700.00

Visit Shedd Aquarium and Lincoln Park Zoo, plus a sporting event (Sox vs. Royals). $300.00

Visit Como Zoo & Conservatory and Science Center, Mall of America, and schedule permitting a sporting event. $250.00

Lake of the Ozarks Trip
Relax in a home on Tan Tar Resort in Osage Beach, MO. There we’ll enjoy all the beautiful lake has to offer like swimming, fishing, hiking, miniature golf, shopping, and live entertainment. Max 8 campers. $700.00

Niagara Falls, ON Canada Trip
We’ll enjoy some great attractions surrounding this breath taking natural wonder. Highlights include: Maid of the Mist Boat Ride Under the Falls, Marine Land Theme park and Aquarium, and Clifton Hills’ entertainment district. Max 9 campers. $700.00

Yellowstone Trip (7-day)
Full 7 days of adventures on this extended road trip out West. We’ll make the most of our travels across South Dakota and Wyoming by stopping to visit such sites as Mount Rushmore, Wall Drug, Corn Palace, Badlands National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Old Faithful, and so much more. Max 9 campers. $900.00

Twin Cities Trip
We’ll have a day of fun at Valley Fair Amusement Park. And we’ll shop until we drop at the Mall of America. And top off our week with a visit to the Como Zoo & Conservatory and then the Science Center where we’ll enjoy an IMAX presentation. Plus schedule permitting we’ll take in a sporting event while we’re in the Twin Cities. Max 8 campers. $700.00

Let’s go International and take in the wonderful Toronto sites: Toronto Zoo, Casa Loma, Ontario Science Center, and a sporting event if our schedule permits (Jays vs. Rangers).Max 9 campers. $700.00

Wilderness Trackers
For a true Survivor-like experience campers are invited to enjoy the great outdoors by canoeing the Maquoketa River, primitive camping in a tent, cooking meals over a wood fire, caving and many more outdoor living experiences. Max 12 campers. $350.00 with $50.00 deposit.

Counselor’s Pick from 2005!! Come out West with us to see Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Badlands National Park, World’s only Corn Palace, World Famous Wall Drug, and much more. Max 9 campers. $600.00

Spend Saturday enjoying all there is to offer at Your State Fair, also enjoy visiting the state capital area of downtown Des Moines. $250.00

Bahamas Cruise
Let’ s leave the cold, blustery weather of Iowa behind and take a voyage to the Bahamas. We’ll set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida aboard the Carnival Elation. Exciting times await us at Grand Turk (Turks & Caicos) and Nassau, Bahamas, as well as a special stop to Half Moon Cay (Carnival’s Privately Owned Island Paradise). $1,480.00
