2007
Travel Program - All Trips

Purpose
The purpose of Camp Courageous' Travel Program is to provide campers over the age of 14 the opportunity to experience the joys and thrills of visiting urban areas in a safe and controlled atmosphere. Experienced staff who have planned each detail of the trip accompanies travel campers.

Participants
Every Camp Courageous Trip is for individuals who are able to function successfully in a variety of public settings. Camp Courageous is proud to offer trips for campers who may benefit from more supervision and care.

Deposit/Travel Accounts
All trip participants must provide camp a $300 non-refundable deposit by February 28th (unless otherwise specified). Balance is due 45 days prior to travel. We welcome setting up travel accounts for campers interested in planning on taking future trips.

Trip Requirements
Individuals who choose to participate in the trips are expected to be willing and able to do the following:

  • Be on the go A LOT.
  • Use stairs, elevators, and/or escalators.
  • Attend sporting events in large stadiums (schedule permitting).
  • Cross city streets.
  • Get in and out of a 15-passenger motor coach (“Wheeling” campers will be assisted onto a motor coach with a lift).
  • Ride in a motor coach for several hours.
  • Stay with the group. s and one staBe independent in personal care (exception being our “Assisting” and “Wheeling” trips).
  • Have good
  • Share a quad room with two other campersocial skills

NOTE:

  • Campers traveling in February and December will also travel by plane.
  • There are spaces available for campers who use wheel chairs on the February, December and “Wheeling” trips.
  • Campers traveling to Niagara Falls must be at least 18 years of age and provide a passport in order to cross borders.
STANDARD
Designed for very independent individuals. Staff to camper ratio is 1:3.
ASSISTING
Designed for capable individuals who may need help with personal care and more help in public settings. Staff to camper ratio is 1:2.
WHEELING
Designed for individuals who need the use of a wheelchair, stroller, walker, etc. & may need help with personal care & aid with their mobility. Staff to camper ratio is 1:1.
STANDARD W/NURSE
RN will be available to travel with campers who may need injections or have special needs.
WHEELING W/NURSE
Same as "wheeling" trip with RN available to travel with campers who may need injections or have special needs.

Camp Courageous is going back to Disneyworld!  It’s too cold to hang around in Iowa all winter long.  Let’s head to some warmer weather down in Florida.  We’ll explore Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and MGM.Approx. $1600.00  -   Balance due January 2.

Twin Cities
We’ll have a day of shopping until we drop at the Mall of America.  While at the Mall we’ll visit Underwater Adventures Aquarium. We’ll also see the Como Zoo & Conservatory and the Science Museum of Minnesota where we’ll enjoy an IMAX presentation.  Plus we’ll take in a sporting or cultural event while we’re in the Twin Cities.6 campers. $700.00.

Nashville
Let’s head south this spring week to the Country Music Capital.  In this music filled week, we’ll visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, Studio B, and take a driving tour of Stars’ Homes.  An evening of entertainment at the Grand Ole Opry will top off our week.  On our way back to Camp Courageous we’ll stop in St Louis to visit the Arch. 9 campers. $700.00.

South Dakota
Come out West with us to see Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Badlands National Park, World’s only Corn Palace, World Famous Wall Drug, & much more. 9 Campers. $600.00.

Branson
Let’s go visit the Live Entertainment Capital of the World.  We’ll stay in a home in one of Branson’s premiere resorts. We’ll visit Silver Dollar City for some rides, shows, and shopping.  And of course we’ll enjoy some adventures along the Branson strip as well as seeing one of Branson’s famous shows. 10 campers. $700.00.

Niagra Falls, Canada
Counselor pick from 2006!  We’ll enjoy some great attractions surrounding this breath taking natural wonder. Highlights include:  Maid of the Mist Boat Ride Under the Falls, Marine Land Theme park and Aquarium, and Clifton Hills’ entertainment district.9 campers. $700.00. PASSPORT REQUIRED.

Wisconsin Dells
Let’s go visit the Water Park Capital of the World.  We’ll stay in a condo in one of the Dell’s premiere resorts. With over 100 attractions in the area our options for fun are endless.  We’ll take in the sights, get a little wet, and of course enjoy some live entertainment. 10 campers. $700.00.

We’ll spend this summer week enjoying World’s of Fun and Ocean’s of Fun. Also, we’ll visit the Kansas City Zoo and Union Station plus a Sporting Event. 9 campers. $700.00.

For a true Survivor-like experience campers are invited to enjoy the great outdoors by canoeing the Maquoketa River, primitive camping in a tent, cooking meals over a wood fire, caving and many more outdoor living experiences.12 campers. $400.00 - $50.00 Deposit.

Louisville
Enjoy spending this summer week with us exploring Louisville.  We’ll visit the famous Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, the science museum for some hands on play and the Louisville Zoo to see their 1,300 animals, plus a sporting or cultural event if our schedule permits.9 campers. $700.00.

We’ll explore the culture and uniqueness of the home of the Delta Blues.  Graceland will be the highlight or our journey. We’ll enjoy the a day at the Memphis Zoo, dancing on Beale Street, and we’ll go and see the march of the Peabody Ducks, plus a sporting or cultural event if our schedule permits.6 campers. $700.00

Let’s fly into Vegas and take the Grand Canyon Railway to visit the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  We’ll have a great time taking in all of the majestic beauty of this seventh natural “Wonder of the World.”  We’ll also visit Hoover Dam and Lake Meade. Approx. $1500.00.

Let’s go back to visit some other attractions in Orlando and Tampa.  We’ll spend our week exploring Discovery Cove, Sea World, and Bush Gardens.  Approximately $1600.00
