Volunteering at
Camp Courageous of Iowa

Volunteers play an important role at Camp Courageous. Without individual and group volunteers the camp would not have grown as it has over the past many years. All areas of the camp can use volunteers... such as cutting grass, assisting in the kitchen, sorting donations, stuffing envelopes in the office, creating new sidewalks for wheelchair campers, giving tours to visitors, and so much more.

There are so many ways to help Camp Courageous. If you are interested in volunteering then please contact Shannon Poe, Respite Care/Volunteer Director, by sending E-mail to shannon@campcourageous.org or call her at 319-465-5916, ext. 2320. Below are a few specific volunteer jobs needed.

What is the best way to get started as a camp volunteer?
Fill out the Camp Courageous of Iowa Volunteer Questionnaire. This form allows you to provide your contact information, skills, and volunteer preferences so that the camp staff can best utilize your time and talents.

If I live outside the United States, how do I apply to be a volunteer?
International volunteers may apply online. Once you apply, you may be contacted to set up an interview via telephone. Please note: international volunteers are responsible for securing their own Visa and transportation to and from Camp.

Can I volunteer during the week that my camper will be attending?
Yes. However, you still must complete an interview, background check and reference check.

Is there any paperwork necessary to fill-out before becoming a volunteer at Camp Courageous?
Yes. Volunteers are asked to complete an application, which can be downloaded or completed online. Volunteers wishing to work with campers must also successfully complete an interview, reference check and background check.

Are there opportunities for church groups/mission trips?
Yes. Camp Courageous is not religiously affiliated so church groups of any denomination are welcome. These groups often complete maintenance and grounds keeping projects.
